January 23, 2011: Donation to SightLife in Seattle
During the Christmas/New Year Celebrations on January 23, 2011, KAW President Santhosh Nair handed over KAW’s contribution of $1000 to SightLife to Robert J. Vatter (Vice President of Planned Giving). Mr. Vatter addressed the gathering and thanked KAW members for their generous contribution.
Sightlife is the largest eye bank and their mission is collecting and reaching Corneas to the hospitals where it can be provided at the most economical ways to people in need. Little Flower Eye Hospital in Angamally is their hub to store corneas. It supplies to the whole of South India. The cost for supporting one Cornea is around $120, the cost is so low because most of their expenses are underwritten by the Indian government.
Thank you letter from Rob Vatter, VP of Planned Giving, Sight Life.

SOS Children's Villages of India, Aluva.
March 14, 2010: Anwin finds a matching donor
In Nov-Dec months KAW did a fund raising event to help out a three year old from Trichur requiring Bone Marrow Transplant. Finally he got a match, 6 out of 6, from his uncle, which everybody thinks is a miracle including his doctor. This has been a huge financial relief for the family as well. Now the whole expense comes down to around Rs 15 lakhs.
February 28: Bone Marrow Registration Drive for Anwin
If you haven’t registered to be a marrow donor please register with
NMDP. Finding matching marrow for South
Asians is really challenging as the registry got only very few members. You
can register either through blood sample or through a swab of cheek cells.
Collecting cheek cell is as easy as rubbing a swab against the inner side of
your cheek few times and it takes less than a minute! The
facts & myths about being a marrow donor can clear many of your fears to
become a donor.
KAW has worked with NMDP Seattle
Chapter and is arranging a Marrow Registry Drive (cheek
swab method) on February 28th Sunday at 1 PM to 4 PM at
Hindu Temple & Cultural Center, Bothell.
Address: 3818 212th ST SE, Bothell WA 98021
