KAW Christmas/New Year Fest

KAW celebrated Christmas & New Year with a grand function on Jan 17, 2009. A 16 member EC for 2009 was elected in the function. Mr. George Daniel assumed the President's duties and Mrs. Jayashree Narayanan was elected as the new Secretary. Details at the Arts page.

Movie "Twenty-Twenty"

KAW presented the greatest all-star entertainer Movie - "20-20" featuring Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Dileep, Jayaram, Mukesh, Prithviraj, Jayasuriya, Sreenivasan etc on Jan 10th to a packed audience of more than 220, making this Movie another big hit! Thanks to all who attended

KAW Cards Tournament

KAW Cards - "28" Tournament was held on Nov 22nd at Valleyridge Center, Seatac. The "28" Tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Abraham Kalamannil, Chairman and Managing director of Aranmula Aviation Limited and the "56" Tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Sasidharan Nair, founding Chairman of FOMAA. The "56" Finals as well as Rummy Finals will be held on Dec 13th. Details here.

Mr. John Titus elected President of FOMAA

Mr. John Titus, KAW's former president, was unanimously elected as the President of FOMAA (Federation of Malayalee Association of Americas) at the General Body meeting held at New Jersey on Nov 15th. The Election is for a period of 2 years. KAW EC member Mr. PM Mathew was elected as FOMAA EC member. The General Body Meeting attended by close to 150 delegates from 40+ associations across US dicussed and appoved the Constitution & Byelaws of FOMAA. Along with Mr. John Titus & Mr. PM Mathew, Mrs. Kusumam Titus, Mr. Ojus John & Mr. Paul K John attended the Meeting as KAW delegates. KAW extends it's hearty congratulations to Mr. John Titus & Mr. PM Mathew and wish them the very best.

Movie Veruthe Oru Bharya

This year's super Family Hit Movie starrring Jayaram, Gopika, Suraaj etc was screened on Nov 8th to a packed audience of more than 250, making this Movie the biggest hit since "Arabikkatha". Thanks to all who attended

Movie Maadambi

Mohanlal blockbuster "Maadambi" was screened on Oct 25th, but was attended by a sparse crowd. KAW may not be able to bring quality movies if response is too low.

KAW Malayalam Class

This year's KAW Malayalam Classes (separate classes for kids as well as adults) was started on Oct 12th. Schedule is here.

Onam Megashow

KAW hosted this year's Onam celebration on Sunday, September 28th, 2008 from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center. Celebrations started at 11.30 am with KAW's unique sumptuous kerala-style Onam Sadhya, a Buffet lunch for which all dishes were made by ~100 families! The Onam Feast was followed by the cultural extravaganza, which had an eye-catching Thiruvathira, two three spectacular classical/semi-classical/fusion dances, two gorgeous dances by the little butterflies, 3 hilarious comedy dramas, a short skit, beautiful song renditions etc. This greatest Malayali event of Northwest was attended by close to 560 people. KAW President Mr. Ojus John welcomed the audience and the Event was inaugurated by FOMAA Adhoc Committee National Chairman Mr. John Titus and the Onam message was delivered by Mr. K.K.S Poduval. The Winners of KAW's Sports Tournaments were awarded with the trophies during the event. The program ended with Vote of thanks by KAW secretary Mr. Jyothish Nair and a "adipoli" 'Kuttanadan Punjayile' song by EC members and ofcourse with our national anthem. KAW Volley Tournament

KAW Volleyball Tournament was held on August 30th in Kent. 7 Teams participated and Kozhencherry Spikers lifted the trophy for the second consecutive year. Details here.

Movie One Way Ticket

One Way Ticket featuring PrithviRaj, Bhama, Thilakan, Jagathy etc was screened on August 23rd, attended by a small crowd this time!

KAW Throwball Tournament

KAW's first ever Ladies Throwball Tournament was held at the Microsoft Volleyball Arena in the third week of August. "Challengers" team won defeating "Xtremers" in a close fight. Details here.

KAW Cricket Tournament

KAW Cricket Tournament was held at the Micosoft Turf Grounds in the second week of August. Six teams battled it out and "Pulikkoottam" team won the championship for the second time in a row. Details here.

KAW Soccer Tournament

KAW Soccer Tournament was held on August 3rd in Kent. The game was a thriller and the final score was 6-4. The trophy was lifted by the Fast Tracks team.. Details here.

KAW Annual Picnic

KAW's Summer Picnic was held on Aug 2nd at the East Sammamish Park. Delicious food was served free of cost to all and the members participated in a variety of games.

KAW Tennis Tournament

KAW Tennis Tournament was held on July 20th at the Bothell Tennis Grounds. Around 20+ people participated in the Singles and Doubles Tournaments. Details here.

Movie Annanthampi

Annanthampi featuring Mammootty, Salimkular, Suraj V etc was screened on July 13th and a good audience attended this hilarious Mammootty special.

KAW Badminton Tournament

KAW Badminton Tournament was held on June 21st at the Kent Commons Center. Around 40 people participated in the Singles and Doubles Tournaments. Details here.

Mega Stageshow Manikilukkam

This year's staegshow "Manikilukkam" was a megahit with a galaxy of 15 stars led by the Sultan of "Nadan Pattu", our own "KALABHAVAN MANI" and including bright young actress Bhama ("Kolakkuzhal Vili fame), the big small Undapakru (Ajayan), Comedy Kings Kalabhavan Shajohn, Kalabhavan Prajod, Nadirshah etc. performing to a full audience of more than 450+ people on June 15-th, 2008 at 6.30 pm at the Kentwood Performing Arts Center. As a special gift to our little ones, all the kids under 12 got in absolutely free! KAW also served delicious food at a nominal cost. The show included Comedy Programs, Ganamela (Karaoke) and eye-capturing Dance sequences! As promised, exactly 50% of the profits from this show goes to KAW's various charity programs primarily supporting orphaned kids in Kerala. Thanks to each attendee, and all the sponsors who made this event happen. Special accolades to Curry Leaf for serving the food, to each EC member for their phenomenal efforts and to Mr. John Titus for being the grand sponsor of the show.


KAW's Talent Festival "PrathibhaSangamam" was held at St Margaret's Episcopal Church (4228 Factoria Blvd SE, Bellevue, WA 98006) in Bellevue on May 31st from 2pm to 5pm. The talent fest included:
  • National Anthem (both Indian and American)
  • Individual/Group performances in Malayalam
  • Mini-quiz on Kerala
  • Dessert Cooking Competition - for kids (ages 12-18) as well as adults
  • "KAW Star Singer" Malayalam singing competition
Members also showcased talents in art, culinary items (such as jam, pickles etc), sculptures, jewelry and Indian clothes etc.

Movie Calcutta News

Calcutta News featuring Dileep, Meera Jasmin, Innocent etc was screened on May 10th and a reasonable audience attended this serious-themed movie of Blessy's.

Movie Katha Parayumbol

KAW's 2008-inaugural Movie, Katha Paryumbol featuring Mammootty, Srinivasan, Salimkumar, Meena etc was very well received with more than 130+ people in attendance. This movie was screened on April 5th.

KAW 2008 Executive Committee Elected

KAW's 14-member EC for 2008 was elected in the Annual General Body Meeting on 6th Jan, 2007. Mr. Ojus John was elected as the new President and Mr. Jyothish Nair took over as the Secretary for 2008. Mr. George Daniel (Reos) is the Vice President, Mr. Pradeep Unny the Joint Secretary & Mr. Biju Skariah was chosen as the new Treasurer. An Executive committee comprising of 7 members - PM Mathew, Viswanathan Changarath, Dileep Lukose, Jacob Thomas, Sreeram Vaidyanath, Ajitha Gopi & Jayashree Iyer were also elected. Neeni George is the Ex-Officio and Madhu Kanagara will be the Auditor.
