KAW's Summer Picnic
KAW hosted this year's Annual Summer Picnic at the Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, in Renton on Saturday 15-th July. More than 150 KAW members/ family took part enthusiastically in this fun-filled outing. Washington lakeshore on a bright & sunny day was the perfect setting for the Event. The huge kids playground was a big attraction too..As is always the trait with us Malayalees, crowds started flocking in by 11.00 am one hour later than the originally scheduled time:)). Nevertheless, the perfectly grilled Burgers, Hot Dogs and other goodies were literally a feast.. Babu Parayil, Madhu Kangara, George Daniel, Wilson David and Aniyam Mattamel led the "Grilling" section doing a phenomenal job by catering to such a big gathering with ample support from Latha, Shanthi, Jini Biju, Jyothi Sebastian, Suja Wilson etc. George Parappuram and Jyothish Nair took charge of the front booth thereby ensuring that all the new faces also are inducted into our KAW family. KAW Picnic News continued..
The Games Event started with a game those familiar with our land's politics doesn't need an introduction to - "Kaserakali" (Musical Chair). Kids had a great time playing this game and also in making fun of our lady members who were literally doing a "go-slow-race" circling the chairs. The "Candy Picking" contest ushered in some "beautifully chaotic moments" with the kids lurching on to the candies like some fellows in this world for "Oil"!!. As the fiercely contested VolleyBall and Soccer Games were in full throttle, the stage was set for "Tug-of-War" and for some interesting games, most notably "Spoonil Naranga Vachottam" (Lemon & Spoon Race) & "Chakkilottam" (or Cosco Trash Bag-il ottam). The highlight was the race for ladies over "45" years in which "Omana Amma" & "Saroiji Amma" proved that they are indeed from the land of P.T.Usha & Co!!. Perhaps, the funniest event was the "Sari Udukkal" (Saree Dressing) competition. Wait a minute, what's so funny in that? ..Because, it was exclusively for our Male folks!!. Among others, Biju, Pramoth,Sudheesh etc fought it out for the prestigious "best dressed man in saree" prize. Finally, it was too close to call as men showed that "there's miles to go" before they can be masters in this art:)). The "Collage" competition was the perfect recipe for some brain workout too.. Six teams battled it out and the Team led by Kalpana, Shali, Dhanya & Smitha won the competition effortlessly. BIG Thanks to Viswanathan, Jayaprakash, Asha, Mili etc who gave great support to KAW's Games Coordinators Ojus John & Roopa Manoj in conducting the various games. After the kids-only "Water Balloon Games", KAW EC members started the "Food Auctioning". It must be noted here that despite repeated pleas from the Organizers exhorting everybody to take part in atleast one auction, the response wasn't great, though many including Martin Chittilappilly and Santhoshkumar M Nair participated whole-heartedly, making sure that big quantities of sealed-food is not wasted. The day's proceedings came to a halt with the "Prize Distribution" ceremony by KAW Secretary, Santhosh Nair. All the kids who participated in various Games walked away with prizes. KAW thanks Santhosh Padiyath for photographing the whole event. Click here for Picnic photos. As the picnic ended, many were changing to swimming dresses to cool-off in Lake Washington after a nice day out!! KAW Executive Committee thanks each and every attendee for making the Picnic a grand success. If you would like to leave a feedback on this News item, mail newsdesk@kaow.org If you would like to leave any feedback on the Picnic, kindly drop in a note to secretary@kaow.org
