The teams were divided into two pools with the winners of each pool competing in the Finals. Group A was won by Pulikkoottam who defeated the opponents in both their group games. Thekkan Bowlers took the second spot in the group ahead of Bellevue Pillere. Group B produced some nail-biting finishes. While Mansoon Mallus snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Mayavis, Mayavis did the same to Seattle Chekavers! But, Seattle Chekavers raised their form in the all-important decider, with Ashley and Santhosh sharing a great partnership to defeat Mansoon Mallus to qualify for the Finals.

In the finals, Seattle Chekavers led by Ashley Elenjickal won the toss against Pulikkoottam led by Ojus John and batted first. Chekavers were rocked by couple of direct hit runouts including key wickets of Santhosh & Ashley, a crucial two-wicket over from Vinod Ravindran as well as sharp bowling by Prashant, Binu, Jacob & Rajesh. Though Jayesh tried a rearguard action, the total of 40-odd was not enough. But two quick wickets after a feasty start by Pulikkoottam opener Jacob Thomas gave Chekavers hope. But Prashant Kesavan continued his brilliant form from the league matches and supported by Ojus resisted the valiant efforts by Chekavers helping Team "Pulikkoottam" lift the trophy for the second consecutive year, with Chekavers finishing a creditable second. KAW Soccer Tournament

The much awaited KAW Soccer Tournament Semis were held on Sixty Acre Park located in Redmond on July 27th. In the first semi, Kerala Police led by Ashley Elenjickal played a very organized defense-oriented game masterminded by Santhosh Moolayil. The first half was a goal-less affair, but a momentary lapse of concentration from Kerala Police defense was enough for Shane Daniel to score the first goal for last year's champions, "Fast Tracks" From there, it was up-hill struggle for Kerala Police who didn't had any substitutions available beacuse of injuries. Sumith Chacko's 25-yard screamer settled the issue for Fast Tracks. In the second semi, a no-show by Thunders allowed Dashers a walk-over into the Finals.

The Finals was held at Wilson Field in Kent on August 3rd. In the finals in which a capacity crowd was treated to some exhilarating attacking football, Fast Tracks led by Deepak George won against Dashers led by Joshy Jospeh by a margin 6-4. Though direct sunlight on to the face of both goalkeepers was also a factor, it was motly because of the attack-oriented formations as well as some elementary defensive mistakes. Jacob Thomas scored 3 goals for Dashers while Shane Daniel was the highest scorer for "Fast Tracks". Shane Daniel was also voted in as the MVP by the 3-member judge panel. The awards were presented by KAW President Ojus John, KAW Secretary Jyothish Nair & KAW Patron John Titus. Thanks to KAW Soccer Coordinators Ojus John, Jyothish Nair, Jacob Thomas, Pradeep Unny, Viswnathan C & Biju Skariah for making this a grand event and also to Boney Mathew, Skyline for sponsoring the Trophies. 2007 Sports Tournament Details

KAW Chess Tournament

KAW’ first ever Chess tournament was held on 5th Jan 2008 at Crossroads, Bellevue from 1 pm to 5 pm. In the Junior and Senior sections combined a total of 16 people participated. Each player had to play 3 games each and the top two players who get maximum points out of these games were declared champion and runners up. In the juniors section, Ryan Thomas won all his games very comfortably and lifted the title while there was a tie for the second spot between Mevin and Hemanth. In the battle to secure second spot, Mevin cornered Hemanth in a very tact full move. In the senior section Prajnish, Hariprasad and K.G.Sunny won all their games and extended tournament into a round robin among those three. A moment of carelessness cost Hari his queen in his match against Prajnish which caused him to surrender the game. In a very similar way Sunny lost the game to Hari. In the last match Prajnish comfortably won over Sunny to win the title. With one win and one defeat, Hari finished as runners up. Thanks to Ashley Elenjickal, Ojus John and Sanju Joseph for coordinating the event. We also thank Ryan Thomas, Vidul Shajan and Hari Malavika for allowing us to use their chess sets and clocks for the tournament. Four Teams were in the fray for the KAW'2007 Volleyball Trophy. After the Initial rounds, the "Kozhencherry Spikers" led by Boney Mathew was pitted against the "Tharikidas" led by Abraham Isaac. Though the "Tharikidas" fought valiantly, the professionalism and youthfulness of "Spikers" was good enough to see them thru to the Finals. In the second semifinals, "Pathanamthitta Thunders", the veterans of the Tournament led by Toms John (Appu) met the "Sixers" led by Prajinesh Jayan. After a closely fought battle, the experience of "Thunders" was a deciding factor in them clinching the final spot. KAW Cricket Tournament

The KAW Cricket Championship semifinals and finals were held on July 22nd. In the first Semi at 1.30 pm, "Pulikkoottam" led by Ojus John won the toss and elected to bat against "Spurs" led by Binoy Varughese. Though "Pulikkootam" were in trouble early at 23/4, a well-calculated partnership of 49 between Vinod & Ojus enabled them to finish at a decent score of 79/6. In reply, the "Spurs" team were allout for 21 with "Pulikkottam" bowlers Rajesh, Vinod, Jacob, Prashant & Pramoth in outstanding form. In the second semi at 3.30 pm, "Mayavis" captain Vasudev won the toss and sent "Seattle Chekavers" led by Ashley Elenjickal to bat first. "Chekavers" lost couple of key players Jayesh & Ashley early in the innings and they never really recovered from that. The "Mayavis" swing bowling spearheaded by Neil & Vasu bowled out the opponents for 31. Though the "Seattle Chekavers" bowling led by Santhosh Pillai fought valiantly, 31 was never enough and "Mayavis" romped home with many overs to spare.

In the grand finals of KAW Cricket Tournament 2007, "Mayavis" captain Vasudev won the toss and decided to field. The "Pulikkoottam" innings got off to a flying start courtesy a fine cameo from Manesh. Thereafter Prashant & Jacob took over and they were just scintillating in their 60+ partnership. Prashant finished with 46 n.o with "Pulikkottam" piling up a big 106/2 in 16 overs. The "Mayavis" innings was rocked at the start with 2 runouts even before the account opened. Again the "Pulikkoottam" bowlers were too hot to handle and "Mayavis" could muster 38 runs in 16 overs, with Ravikumar Hariharan waging a lone battle..The "Pulikkoottam" fielding was also top-notch, the catch by Pramoth to dismiss Sanju a fine example of the same. Thus, Team "Pulikkoottam" are the champions and "Mayavis" the runners-up of KAW Cricket Championship' 07, sponsored by "Kerala Talkies". Thanks to ARCL for arranging the Ground & Cricket Balls and to Sidewinders Team (Manoj Syamala/Sebastian) for the cricket kits.
