Dear members of the Malayalee community:
Some of you may already have met Viraj. Those of you who haven't, here is a little background:
Viraj was born on 03/03/03 in Phoenix. He was a perfectly normal, extremely smart and loving boy. On August 29th, 2005, unfortunately, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. The cancerous cells also infiltrated the brain, so now he needs to learn all the skills - walking, talking etc. - from the beginning. But to ensure his longevity, he needed a bone marrow transplant. That brought Viraj and his parents - Vipin and Seena - to Seattle. The transplant process was done in April at the Children's Hospital but he has not yet been in a stable condition.
On top of all these sufferings, last week, Viraj's grand mother (Seena's
mother) passed away in Kerala. Seena is the only daughter and she desperately wants to go to Kerala. But, based on Viraj's condition, the doctors are asking her to stay here with him. Viraj's grand mother had never seen him and she was planning on coming to Seattle this month to see him for the first time.
As we all know the treatment for marrow transplant is very expensive. Though Vipin is a well qualified professional and earning like any of us, things are running out of his hands. The last two years of treatment and the fact that the whole family is staying in Seattle (away from their Phoenix home), has put a big financial burden on this family. Like any of us, they are also very proud not to bother others with their financial needs. But, as the Malayalee community, we think we have some responsibility to help them. It is our moral responsibility to feel their pain and extend our helping hands.
If you would like to help them financially, please make your financial support payable to "Kerala Association of Washington" and send to the following address:
